Financial advisor to Nordzucker in the sale of the activities in Anklam
ATRIUM acted as financial advisor to Nordzucker AG in connection with the divestment of Danisco Sugar’s German subsidiary, Danisco Sugar GmbH (Anklam), to Royal Cosun.
Danisco Sugar GmbH owned two plants that produced sugar and bioethanol, located in the town of Anklam in the German state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The sugar quota in Anklam was approx. 115,000 tonnes out of a total quota for Danisco Sugar of 966,000 tonnes.
After Nordsucker signed the agreement to acquire Danisco Sugar, the German competition authority announced that the implementation of the agreement required a sale of Danisco Sugar’s activities in Germany (Anklam).
ATRIUM was in charge of the sale through a controlled auction process to bidders that were accepted by the German competition authorities. The sale was conducted under tight deadlines, as the original buyer of Anklam was not accepted by the competition authorities.
The buyer ended up being Royal Cosun, a producer of food ingredients including sugar, industrial alcohol and potato products. Royal Cosun is the largest and only sugar producer in the Netherlands.
